FAQ

SkinPen® is the only TGA approved medical grade needling technology producing more dramatic results to rejuvenate skin, combat stubborn pigmentation and help repair acne or surgical scarring.

As we age our natural collagen production slows down, leading to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. Skin needling, (also known as micro needling or collagen induction therapy) is a cosmetic procedure that involves using a medical grade device with ultra-fine, medical grade needles to create thousands of tiny punctures, invisible to the naked eye. These punctures stimulate the skin’s natural healing response and encourage the production of collagen and elastin, two proteins that are essential for healthy, vibrant skin.

Our Skin Needling device is one of the safest, most effective and comfortable micro needling devices currently on the market and the adjustable hand-piece allows for a completely customised treatment tailored to your individual skin concerns.

New collagen production can continue for up to 12 months, resulting in an improvement in skin firmness and texture and a softening and lifting of scars and stretch marks. Skin Needling can also be used to diminish the appearance of pigmentation and sun damage, as well as improve uneven skin texture and stretched pores.

The benefits of Skin Needling Include:

  • Improved skin texture: by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, which can improve the texture and firmness of the skin. This lead to a smoother, more even skin tone.
  • Fine lines and wrinkles: By stimulating collagen production, microneedling can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Scarring: help reduce the appearance of scars, including acne, stretch marks and surgical scars.
  • Skin tone and pigmentation: improve uneven skin tone and pigmentation, including age spots and sun damage.
  • Increased effectiveness of skincare products: The micro-channels created by microneedling can allow topical skincare products to penetrate deeper into the skin, making them more effective.
  • Minimally invasive: Micro needling is a minimally invasive procedure that can be performed with little to no downtime.

Skin needling, also known as micro needling, is generally safe and effective for the vast majority of patients. However, there are some candidacy requirements that should be considered before undergoing this procedure. Here are some factors that may affect your candidacy for skin needling:

  • Skin type: Skin needling is generally safe for all skin types, but individuals with certain skin conditions, such as eczema or rosacea, may not be good candidates for the treatment. Please note: those with olive and darker skin tones  should consult with a dermatologist or their regular GP prior to undergoing treatment
  • Skin concerns: Skin needling is often used to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, and uneven skin tone. If you have these concerns, you may be a good candidate for the treatment. If you have skin conditions, such as psoriasis, dermatitis etc consult with your dermatologist or regular GP prior to undergoing treatment
  • Overall health: Skin needling is a minimally invasive procedure, but it is still important to be in good overall health. If you have a history of bleeding disorders or skin infections, you may not be a good candidate for the treatment.
  • Smoking/Vaping: Smokers should be aware that smoking compromises the body’s ability to grow new collagen.
  • Medications: Certain medications, such as blood thinners, may increase the risk of bleeding during the procedure. It is important to let your healthcare professional know about any medications you are taking before undergoing skin needling.
  • Pregnancy: If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is generally not recommended to undergo skin needling.
  • History of scarring: If you have a history of hypertrophic or keloid scarring, you may not be a good candidate for skin needling.

It is important to discuss your candidacy for skin needling with your nurse. They can evaluate your skin type, concerns, and overall health to determine if skin needling is right for you.

Skin Needling final results are usually visible by one week post treatment, with repeated treatments recommended to continue initial production. Like all rejuvenation treatments you do need to maintain some amount of upkeep. Your new collagen will continue to improve over 6-12 months and effects can last up to 5 years. It is recommended that you do a top up treatment 1-2 times a year to maintain your results and further stimulate collagen development.

  • Improved skin texture and tone: Skin needling stimulates collagen production, which can help to improve the texture and tone of the skin. This can reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars.
  • Increased skin hydration: Skin needling can also improve skin hydration, which can give the skin a more youthful and radiant appearance.
  • Reduced pigmentation: skin needling evens out the skin tone to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation or sun damage.
  • Natural-looking results: Because skin needling utilizes the patient’s own blood, it can result in a more natural-looking outcome than other cosmetic treatments that use synthetic materials.
  • Minimal downtime: Skin beedking is a minimally invasive procedure that typically requires little significate downtime so patients can return to their regular activities shortly after the treatment.

You can use the following as a treatment schedule guide to see best results;

  • Overall Rejuvenation: 3-6 treatments (best 4-6 weeks apart)
  • Acne/Scarring & Stretch Marks: 6-12 treatments (best 4-6 weeks apart)

The downtime for skin needling treatment varies depending on the depth of the treatment and the individual’s skin type, however, most patients are able to return to their normal activities the next day.

A feeling of tightness is experienced and a slight “sunburnt” look is usually apparent immediately after treatment, lasting 1-3 days but can be concealed using a mineral based makeup. Some patients may also experience mild bruising or pinpoint bleeding post treatment.Hot baths, showers and saunas should be avoided for at least 3-5 days.

You may also experience skin peeling around the 3-7 day mark, try not to rub or pick as this can decrease your healing rate or damage the new skin underneath.an LED treatment immediately post procedure boosts healing and decreased downtime significantly for most patients.

Additional Considerations;

  • Avoid sun exposure: It is important to avoid direct sun exposure for at least a week after treatment. If you must go outside, wear a hat and apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.
  • Use gentle skincare products: In the days following treatment, use gentle skincare products that do not contain harsh chemicals, retinoids/retinols, AHA’s, active serums or fragrances.
  • Avoid makeup: It is best to avoid wearing makeup for at least 24 hours after treatment to allow the skin to fully heal.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise: It is best to avoid strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours after treatment, as sweating can irritate the skin and increase the risk of infection.
  • Be gentle: During the healing process, avoid picking at or scratching the treated area and be careful when washing your face or applying skincare products.

Skin needling is generally not suitable for those who have been on Roaccutane (or variations) in the last 6 months, have cystic acne, open wounds, infections, uncontrolled diabetes, are pregnant or breastfeeding, prone to keloid scarring/abnormal wound healing, or have psoriasis or dermatitis in the area to be treated.

Upon arriving to Angel Aesthetics, you will be greeted by our Angels and checked in via our booking system. If you have any patient forms left to complete (these are sent as part of your reminder message), please arrive at least 5 minutes early.

At your appointment time, your therapist or nurse will take you through and begin your consultation, provided as part of all treatments booked – we’ll never treat you without knowing your goals. During this consultation, the treatment area will be numbed and you and your nurse will discuss the best treatment option for you, advising you of your expected results, how many treatments are recommended to meet your goals, and go through your aftercare instructions & any potential side effects to look out for

Any makeup and numbing will be removed and the treatment area cleansed and disinfected in preparation for treatment. Your nurse/therapist will microneedle the skin to depths up to 2.5mm to areas of concern with a compounded HA serum. Treatment will be completed in approximately 30 minutes from start to finish, after which your therapist will take you through to reception to complete payment, where you’ll be offered to sit and relax with a coffee, tea or sparkling water & some snacks to unwind and relax post treatment.

We use a very strong TLA (topical local anaesthetic) to the entire treatment area for a minimum of 15 minutes. Both the injection needle and the microneedling head are extremely fine gauge, and with numbing the pain is minimal, but a pressure sensation can be felt.
